Set Building
Over the last couple of years we have built sets for a number of productions at the amazing Ifield Barn Theatre in Crawley, and we are becoming very knowledgeable in maximising a small space with Box Sets or more open layouts. Working with a variety of directors, we always aim to bring their vision to life, whilst at the same time building a safe, functional set that comes in on budget – it can be quite challenging at times.
We have also had the opportunity to work with the very professional team at East Surrey Performing Arts, most recently leading on the set build for Bonnie & Clyde. This really was a different sort of experience, with our first real soiree into movable trucks & fibreglass moulding – we still have a lot to learn but feel that we have embraced a whole new set of skills which we hope to improve upon every show we do.
Set Design
This is a new area for us and we are currently experimenting with a number of software packages that enable visualisation of both 2D & 3D representations of a set. We already have a lot of experience with Visio, and are getting up to speed with SketchUp and VectorWorks. We’ve also had a play with AutoCad LT.
We are also embracing the beautiful art of physical set models which we hope to be able to offer as a service in the not-to-distant future.
Whether electronic or physical, the models are not only designed to aid in the construction of the set, but also to bring the artistic vision to life. If you have a set that you’d like to see visualised, we’d love to gain a bit more experience and would be happy to work for free.
